A MATTER OF BALANCE:
MANAGING CONCERNS ABOUT FALLING
A Self-Evidence Based Program In Central Texas
The award winning program consists of eight two- hour session designed to help older adults 60+ years of age reduce their fear of falling through group discussion, problem-solving strategies and increasing the physical activity levels of those who have concerns about falls. The program is based on a volunteer coaches to teach the eight two-hour sessions.
The falls prevention classes are for those who:
- · are worried about falls
- · had a fall in the past
- · limit activities because of concerns about falling
- · are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength
Classes can help you learn to:
- · control falls and fear of falling
- · increase your activity
- · reduce fall hazards in your home
- · build strength and balance

All classes are free to the public

TIPS TO PREVENT FALLS:
- · Start Exercising– moderate exercise to improve strength, flexibility and balance
- · Change environment to reduce risks in the home– improve indoor/outdoor lighting, use non-slip rugs, install hand rails in the bathroom
- · Have your vision checked
- · Review prescriptions and non-prescription medications with your doctor
- · Use assistive devices
- · Wear sensible shoes
